About appointment types

When you make an appointment, ezyVet can automatically set many types of information for the appointment (for example, the appointment time). And ezyVet can also make sure that staff select a patient record and clinical record for a new appointment. To set the automatic and mandatory information, ezyVet uses appointment types.

Because an appointment type automatically includes important information of a new appointment:
  • It helps make sure that your organization has accurate appointment records for reporting
  • It helps make sure that your organization can give high-quality veterinary care to patients
All ezyVet sites have a set of appointment types that staff can select and use. And a practice manager can configure new appointment types that are applicable to the work that their organization does.

A practice manager knows that staff enter many different appointment names for new appointments of 15-minute consultations. The different appointment names that the practice manager sees include:
  • Consult (15)
  • Consultation 15 minutes
  • Consult

The different names cause problems for accurate reporting. Thus, the practice manager configures an appointment type for a 15-minute consultation. The appointment type has the correct name. Then, the practice manager tells staff that they must use the appointment type for new 15-minute consultations.

As a result, all new 15-minute consultations always have the same appointment name.

A practice manager knows of many appointments for 15-minute consultations that do not have a selected patient. The missing patient selections increase the manual work necessary to find the correct patients for the appointments.

The practice manager finds the configured appointment type for 15-minute consultations. Then, they make a settings change for mandatory patient selection.

As a result, a staff member must select a patient record when they make an appointment for a 15-minute consultation. Unless they select a patient record, they cannot save the appointment.
