About permissions roles

A permissions role is a configured set of user account permissions. The set of user account permissions is usually related to the work that a staff member does. For example, a permissions role that has the name Reception could have a set of permissions that are applicable to a receptionist. And the permissions would give access to only the ezyVet functions that are necessary for receptionist work.

Example of configured permissions roles

Because a permissions role has a set of user account permissions, it decreases the time necessary to add applicable permissions to a user account. And when a practice manager adds or removes a user account permission of a permissions role, all user accounts that have the role receive the change.

Callisto Vets has three veterinary technicians. The practice manager:
  • Wants to make sure that the veterinary technicians have only the user account permissions that are necessary for their type of work
  • Does not want to add each of the many applicable permissions to each user account of each technician

ezyVet has a configured permissions role with the name Nurse. The Nurse permissions role has a set of user account permissions that is applicable for veterinary technician work.

The practice manager adds the Nurse permissions role to the user account of each technician.

Configuration of new permissions roles

All new ezyVet sites have set of configured permissions roles. A practice manager can use the configured roles to quickly and easily add sets of permissions to user accounts. But if necessary, a practice manager can configure new permissions roles that are applicable to their organization.

Callisto Vets has two dedicated accountants. It is necessary for the accountants to have a set of user account permissions that is applicable for their financial work. The Callisto Vets ezyVet site does not have an applicable permissions role for accountants.
The practice manager:
  1. Configures a new permissions role with the name Accountant
  2. Adds a set of applicable user account permissions to the Accountant role
  3. Add the Accountant permissions role to the user account of each accountant

A month after the practice manager made the Accountant permissions role, they make a decision that one of the user account permissions of the role is not necessary. They remove the user account permission from the role. As a result, each accountant automatically does not have the user account permission that the practice manager removed from the role.

Other functions of permissions roles

A practice manager can configure module blocking for a permissions role. After they do the configuration, all persons who have the permissions role have access to the module features or do not have the access.

A practice manager can add report permissions to a permissions role. As a result, all persons who have the permissions role have access to the applicable ezyVet reports.
