About product containers

Use a product container when it is necessary to sell a product that uses the inventory of different products.

The general steps to use a product container are:
  1. Make sure that the applicable products have the necessary configuration
  2. Make and configure a product container
  3. Add the applicable products to the product container
  4. Add the product container an invoice line item
Callisto Vets buys a medication from a product supplier. The medication is in bottles. Each bottle contains 100 pills. When Callisto Vets invoices clients, they usually sell a number of pills of the medication. (That is, Callisto Vets does not sell a full 100-pill bottle of the medication each time.)

The practice manager first configures a product container for the medication. Then, they configure a product for the number of number of pills sold each time and add it to the product container.

When a staff member adds the product container to an invoice, ezyVet automatically decreases the inventory level of the bottle correctly.

Callisto Vets buys a medication from a product supplier. The medication is in bottles. Each bottle contains 30 pills. It is necessary for Callisto Vets to invoice a full bottle of the medication for each time that the medication is in an invoice.
The practice manager first configures a product container for the medication. Then, they configure a product for the number of pills sold each time and add it to the product container. When the practice manager adds the product, they:
  1. Enter 30 in the Item Quantity box
  2. Clear the Fixed Qty checkbox

A staff member uses the product container to invoice two bottles of the medication for a client. As a result, ezyVet automatically decreases the inventory level of the product by a value of 60.

Product containers and standard of care

You can also use a product container for standard of care. For example, a practice manager can configure a product container that is for a second-year booster vaccination. The contained product is the vaccine that is ordered from a product supplier. When a staff member invoices a client for the vaccination of the standard of care, ezyVet automatically decreases the inventory levels of the vaccine.
