About intravenous (IV) infusion treatments

You can give a patient an intravenous (IV) infusion treatment (for example, if it is necessary to give a patient pain relief). When you make the IV infusion treatment, you can add related products to it. Vet Radar shows the treatment and the related products and medication in the patient sheet.

You can add the products when you start the treatment. Or you can add the products after you start the treatment. Vet Radar shows the related products in the applicable treatment tab. You can select if Vet Radar shows or hides the related products in the patient sheet.

About constant rate of infusion (CRI) treatments

You can add a medication to an IV infusion treatment. When you select a medication, Vet Radar shows the medication's settings. You can set:
  • The dilution of the medication
  • The concentration of the medication
  • The dose rate
  • The volume of the medication
  • The length of time that the patient has the treatment

Vet Radar has a constant rate infusion (CRI) calculator that can calculate the infusion rate of fluid therapy medication. Vet Radar calculates the necessary infusion rate to give the medication to the patient at the specified dose. Vet Radar can calculate an undiluted dose and a diluted dose.

Note: You can only add one medication to an IV infusion treatment. If necessary, you must start a different IV treatment for a patient if they must have more than one medication.

About IV infusion treatments with additives

You can add additives to an IV infusion treatment. When you select an additive, Vet Radar shows the additive's settings. You can set:
  • The dilution of the additive
  • The concentration of the additive
  • The dose rate
  • The volume of the additive
  • The length of time that the patient has the treatment

Vet Radar has a CRI calculator that can calculate the infusion rate of additives. Vet Radar the necessary infusion rate to give the additive to the patient at the specified dose. Vet Radar can calculate an undiluted dose and a diluted dose.

Note: You can only add one additive to an IV infusion treatment. If necessary, you must start a different IV treatment for a patient if they must have more than one additive.

Intravenous (IV) infusion task icons

This table shows the icons that the patient sheet uses to show information about an IV infusion treatment:
Icon Information that the icon identifies
A scheduled IV infusion task icon The IV infusion task is scheduled to occur.
A completed IV infusion task icon A person completed the IV infusion task.
A scheduled rate change icon The rate change is scheduled to occur.
A completed scheduled rate change icon A person completed the fluid rate change.

About the dose information settings

This table shows the information in the dose information section:
SettingFunction
Dose RateThe quantity of medication given to a patient in a period.
Dosage RateThe quantity of medication given to a patient in a period. A dosage rate is calculated with a patient's weight.
Infusion RateThe rate that a drug is given to a patient.
Medication VolumeThe quantity of medication added (for example, to an IV fluid bag).
Qty BilledThe quantity to invoice the patient.
