About minimum sell price

Minimum sell price (MSP) is a pilot feature that lets you set a pricing floor on products, so items are not sold below a defined minimum value.

Minimum sell price helps clinics protect their margins by preventing a product line from being sold below a set threshold. When MSP is configured for a product, ezyVet automatically enforces the floor when the product is added to an invoice or estimate. Discounts and price adjustment rules (PARs) still apply, so you can continue to offer flexible pricing while maintaining a consistent baseline.

This feature is currently in pilot. ezyVet is gathering feedback from pilot customers to refine the experience before wider release.

How minimum sell price is calculated

MSP applies to the entire line total, not the price per unit. For example, if a product has an MSP of $10 and the quantity is 5, the line total must be at least $10. This does not mean each unit must cost $10.

If a line total falls below the configured minimum, ezyVet automatically raises the total to the minimum sell price. The unit price is then recalculated so that unit price multiplied by quantity equals the minimum sell price. A flag is applied to the line so you can see when a minimum sell price has been used.

Where minimum sell price can be set

Minimum sell price can be configured at different levels of your organisation, such as company-wide, business unit, or location level.

If a product does not have an MSP set at a specific level, ezyVet automatically uses the closest available value from a higher level in the hierarchy. This means every product can inherit a default minimum if one is not set locally.

Minimum sell prices can only be set on individually priced products, such as medications, vaccinations, standard products, diagnostics, and procedures. You cannot set a minimum sell price directly on a bundle, package, service fee, or container.

Setting a minimum sell price to 0, or leaving it blank, means no minimum is enforced for that product at that level.

You can also update minimum sell prices in bulk using the Product Pricing CSV or the Product CSV, available from Admin > Integration > Record Import/Export > Products.

Central management and syncing

Minimum sell price can be managed centrally and applied across multiple locations. You can set a minimum sell price once at a higher level, such as a company or business unit, and have it automatically apply to all sites below.

Child sites can still override the synced value locally if needed. This approach is ideal for maintaining consistent pricing across a group or enterprise without configuring every site individually.

How service fees are treated

Minimum sell price does not apply to the service fee itself. Instead, ezyVet evaluates the minimum sell price against the product line total, then adds the service fee on top.

For example, if a product has a price per unit of $2.00, a minimum sell price of $10.00, and a service fee of $15.00, adding one unit to an invoice results in a total of $25.00. This is because the product line is raised to the $10.00 minimum, and the $15.00 service fee is added afterwards.

How minimum sell price interacts with bundles, packages, and containers

Minimum sell price behaves differently depending on the type of product grouping:

Minimum sell prices on individual items inside a fixed-price bundle are ignored, because the bundle has a single fixed price. Minimum sell prices on items inside a variable bundle are respected, and each item's minimum contributes to the overall bundle total.

Minimum sell prices on items inside a package are ignored, because package pricing is controlled at the package level.

Containers are priced as the sum of their contained items. If a contained item has a minimum sell price, that minimum is factored into the container's total price, similar to how variable bundles work.

Where minimum sell price does not apply

Minimum sell price is intentionally not enforced in the following scenarios:

Items inside a fixed-price bundle, package items, service fee lines, refunds or reversal lines with negative quantities, and products with no minimum sell price configured.

User discounts, wellness plan discounts, and price adjustment rules (PARs) can reduce a line total below the minimum sell price. This is by design, so staff retain flexibility for specific pricing scenarios.

A Smartflow price override also takes precedence over minimum sell price. If a Smartflow override is active on a product, the minimum sell price is not applied.

Tax handling

Minimum sell price follows your site's tax settings. Depending on your configuration, MSP is treated as tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive, consistent with how your site's sell prices are stored.

Why minimum sell price is valuable

Minimum sell price helps prevent accidental underpricing and protects margins across your organisation. It supports consistent pricing at scale, while still allowing controlled discounting where appropriate.
