Regulatory codes for controlled drugs

If it is necessary for your organization to give reports to U.S. controlled drug agencies, you can use ezyVet to record the applicable regulatory code types.

ezyVet uses the regulatory code types in its controlled drug reports. The controlled drug reports use the American Society for Automation in Pharmacy (ASAP) standard. Organizations that have applicable licenses for controlled drugs must regularly give the reports to the agencies.

You can record these regulatory codes in a new ezyVet site:
  • DEA
  • NCPDP/NABP
  • State Issuing Rx Serial Number
This table gives information about each code:
Regulatory codeDescription
DEAAn identification number that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) gives to:
  • A person who prescribes controlled drugs
  • An applicable veterinary practice
NCPDP/NABPThe National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) provider ID number. The NCPDP uses provider ID numbers for:
  • All licensed pharmacies in the United States
  • All approved non-pharmacy dispensing sites
Note: The NCPDP provider ID number is also known as the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) number.
State Issuing Rx Serial NumberThe United States Postal Service state code of the state that issued the serialized prescription blank. A State Issuing Rx Serial Number code is necessary if your organization uses AIR02.
Note: If necessary, you can also add regulatory code types that are applicable to your jurisdiction.
