Make a copy of a product record for take-home medication

In some states, it is mandatory to do reporting for controlled drugs that you dispense to patient owners to take home. To use the Controlled Drug report for reporting of take-home drugs, a practice manager must make a copy of the product record of the applicable controlled drug. Then, they configure the copy as a product container. Then, when a staff member dispenses the drug for a patient, they select the applicable product container for the drug.

Make a decision about a short text item that identifies the controlled drug as a take-home drug. The text is applicable to step 5 of this procedure.
Note: This procedure uses TH as an example of short text to identify a take-home drug.
To make an applicable product record, do this procedure.
Note: It is only necessary to do this procedure if it is mandatory for you to do controlled drug reporting only on the controlled drugs that staff dispense to take home.
  1. Select Admin.

  2. In the settings list, select Products.

  3. Find and select the applicable product.

  4. Select Create Copy, then select Yes.

  5. In the Product Code box and the Product Name box, replace COPY and Copy with TH

  6. In the Properties section, set Bundle to Container.

  7. Make the remaining settings for the product container as necessary.
  8. Select Save.

  9. Select Container Items.

  10. Adjacent to Product Items, select the plus button..

  11. In the Item box, select the applicable product.

  12. In the Item Quantity box, enter the applicable quantity.
  13. If necessary, select Fixed Qty.

  14. Select Add.
