About business unit configuration
The primary function of the business unit configuration is to make sure that each business unit has full isolation of financial data. Use a business unit configuration to put many departments in a group.
A business unit configuration is usually applicable:
- For many hospitals that are in different physical locations
- For many businesses that are in the same physical location
Note: To use one database with many business units related to different locations, all locations must use the same time zone.
An organization has two hospitals:
- Vet Hospital Tamaki
- Vet Hospital Orakei
Each hospital has three related departments:
- Internal medicine
- Surgery
- ER
It is necessary for each hospital to have full isolation of financial data. Thus, the organization uses the business unit configuration. The result is two business units that have three related departments:

- ER
Vet Hospital Orakei
- Internal medicine
